i’ve always been so awkward at beginnings

This one always makes me laugh. At myself. And at the funny person who thought of it. (Wish it was me.)

Hello, friends.

Where did we leave off? On review it appears we were snapping visa pictures on the front porch of the Farmhouse in Delaware. In the eight months since then our family has traveled approximately 15,230 miles (24,510 km). That’s as the crow flies–the big metal British Airways crow, for most of it. We’ve crossed the USA twice, the oceans once, and are now established–literally–on the other side of Earth.

There are things to say about this process but perhaps the relevant point here is this one: I could not find time to blog.

It became difficult to find time to write last year and then it became impossible. There was all of that waffling about what to do with this blog and then in the end I made no decision at all–the rising waves of busyness washed up and over my head and writing floated away out to sea, where it bobbed about until recently, raising my head above the surf for air, I spotted it.

The thing is, I just must write.

And so I’ve begun again. I’ve always been so awkward at beginnings (cue nervous laughter). There’s still a time-question and a content-question I need to figure out, a security briefing you need to have, a replacement camera lens I haven’t managed yet (long story), and…and…and.

If any of the Main are still out there–stay tuned.

I just checked your blog the other day in the hope that there was a post that had sneaked on without me knowing. I am thrilled to read your words and hear a wee update…reading the ‘lately said’ column is a hoot – Jez loves to hear what the wee ones are saying. We send big hugs (taking Erin’s lead – I’ll send a side one to Alex 😉 and buckets full of love. Praying often for you all. Missing you.

Hooray! I love your writing and you don’t know it but….I say word pictures you’ve written in my head!
Usually it is the “I don’t part easily with my fat beautiful pounds”

A creative act feeds the soul…..and it honours the Lord!

Bets, I have 592 new emails in my inbox that I can just not mentally handle sorting so it’s my version of avoidance. Hee-hee. But I immediately opened the email when I saw it was you again!! I love everything you have to share. It’s not that I expect it at all but when I see it there in my stress filled inbox, it’s a little pocket of blessing that I rush to open. So I am glad and excited to hear from my dear old friend again ❤️ Love from afar and happy thanksgiving!

  21. Erin says:

I am so glad you’re writing again!! I cannot even tell you how happy that makes me… Especially now that I am feeding a baby all the time again. I so enjoyed glimpses of your world in England the last time around when I had James… Now even more so that I have 1) met you, 2) understand firsthand this place you write of, and 3) hold a little girl who shares your name while I read. Love you!!

    • betsy says:

Dear Erin, you are a treasure! Thank you for all of your encouragement! I’m thrilled you’re still “one of the Main”! And welcome, little Betsy!!

  22. thisisstilllife says:

I’m so very happy to hear you are in Java now! Even though we’ve never met and I only started reading your blog sometime into the later part of your England years, I feel warm fuzzies to have a real update to confirm my thoughts and prayers for you these eight months. God is good! Looking forward to whatever you have time to write (and to going through your Advent readings again this year, the thing that originally brought me to your space!).

  23. Canadian Carrie says:

Hi, my name is Carrie. I’ve just recently found your blog and have spent the last couple of months perusing your writings on Advent, and Easter, and Baking and Homeschooling. One of my favorites was your advice on exercise (I have three little people ages four and under right now, very applicable!). Anyways I was piecing together time frames and figured that I must have just met the blog you when blog you was heading into a new season where there might not be new blogs. I thought, if only I had run across your writings a few years ago, but then everything comes in its season. So to see your writings again is a real treat for me!

Strange as it is you’ve popped to mind so many times over these past few months, and as a fellow traveller/transitioner/and seeker of the authentic and good I have kept you close to heart and mind. So from one stranger to another, good to hear from you, thanks for so many deep words and places that you’ve shared, and many many blessed memories in the making for you and your family.

    Canadian Carrie
